Spain

Spanish professional football has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. The sport was introduced to Spain in the 1870s by British expatriates, and the first Copa del Rey was held in 1903. The Primera División was founded in 1929, marking the beginning of Spain’s top football league.

After the Spanish Civil War, football grew in popularity, with Real Madrid dominating the 1950s and winning multiple European titles. The 1960s to 1980s saw further expansion, with clubs like Barcelona and Atlético Madrid establishing themselves as major forces.

Spain’s national team enjoyed success in the 2000s, winning the 2008 UEFA European Championship, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and the 2012 European Championship, marking a golden era. La Liga remains one of the world’s top leagues, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid continuing to dominate both domestically and in European competitions.

History of the Infinity Cup

The first season of the Infinity Cup started in February 1929.

To determine the initial cupholder, the first decisive match played needs to be identified. Five matches were played in the first round.

Four matches took place on 10th February, and one match was played on 12th February.

One match ended in a draw, so it cannot determine the first cupholder. The other three matches had decisive results, with Atlético Madrid, Espanyol Barcelona, or Real Madrid being the potential first cupholders.

Ultimately, all three possible cupholders would lead to the same winner at the end of the season. Since there are no records indicating which match started first, we have chosen Arenas de Getxo vs Atlético Madrid as the first game.
