Lyon claimed their first-ever Ligue 1 title in the 2001/2002 season under manager Jacques Santini, marking a historic achievement for the club. Lens finished second, with Auxerre rounding out the top three.
The league’s top scorers were Djibril Cissé of Auxerre and Pauleta of Bordeaux, both netting 22 goals.
Newly promoted teams included Sochaux, Lorient and Montpellier, while relegation saw teams like Toulouse, Saint-Étienne and Strasbourg drop to Ligue 2.
